Welcome to Older Motorcycle Rides

Older Motorcycle RidersMy love of motor bikes and the biker lifestyle spawned this site. My mission is to promote safer biking with reviews of equipment and informative articles and to give homage to the sheer joy of motorbiking. Being a motor biker is an essential part of me. It's my hobby. It's my passion. It's my transport. It's my addiction. It's my meditation. It's my therapist. It has put great people into my life. It has put wind on my face - only a Biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window!

Motor biking builds confidence. You overcome fear (riding a bike is frightening). You develop and use mental and physical skills (riding a bike is more technical than driving a car). And you learn a lot about yourself (some people strongly and vociferously disapprove of motor bikes, so your self-belief needs to be strong).

From "The Biker's Code" : If the person in the next lane at the stop light rolls up the window and locks the door, support their view of life by snarling at them.

You don't have to be an older motorcycle rider. I welcome ALL bikers , male and female, of all ages to join me. After all, you may be 30 years old now, but one day you'll be older!

Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul.

Motor Bike Ride to a Carrot in a Field

My group of Silver Bikers goes out most Sunday mornings. The outward trip is usually along winding roads and through beautiful villages. The return trip more direct. The turn-around point involves a typical French Café-Bar where most of us drink steaming hot chocolate at this time of year. And eat...

Good Hearted Motorcyclists

Sharing a moment of complicity with a passing toddler and saving a kitten wandering in the middle of the road. Two lovely example of good hearted motorcyclists. We’re often perceived as as too fast, too loud and too dissenting by our contemporaries on the road. Yet we are often the...

Motorcycle Helmet Hair – What Is It? Motorcycle Helmet Hair is either flat and lifeless in appearance or springs wild with static when we remove our motorcycle helmet. Let’s face it, the interior environment of motorcycle helmets can be moist and full of static-creating particles caused by the contact of...

Advice for Older Motorcycle Riders

It’s 42 years since I first rode on motorised 2-wheels. It was “only” a scooter and I soon progressed to bigger, better, faster. But those “scootering” days were a valuable start in developing my road sense and gaining experience. Here are my personal tips on how to enjoy, for...

Why Do Motorcyclists Need Cat Crap and Frog Spit?

Why DO Motorcyclists NEED Cat Crap and Frog Spit? The answer is simple and I shall elucidate….. ……. but let’s backtrack a few days to my previous article about vision and riding a motorcycle. I touched on the subject of fogging on spectacles and on motorcycle helmet visors. What I didn’t...

Protecting Myself in Case of a Crash

In all my years of motorcycling I have come off my motorbike once. Luckily, it was on a private driveway, so there was no traffic flashing past me. I had duck walked my bike on the gravel to turn it around. A pile of gravel had collected under the front...

Women on Motorbikes

Loading Motorcycle Baggage for a Holiday

The proper loading of motorcycle luggage for an extended motorcycling trip is vital for safety and comfort. A poorly loaded or over-loaded motorcycle is an accident waiting to happen. At the very least it makes the riding experience for both pilot and pillion uncomfortable. Motorcycle luggage safety must be a...
